About Lesbian Lips
Lesbian Lips was first launched in 1999 as a Spanish personal website created by Paula Portilla, to publish reviews about lesbian films. In that time Spain was starting to wake up to Internet, and lesbian websites in Spanish could be counted with the fingers of one hand.
After sometime without updates, Lesbian Lips was relaunched in 2002 as a portal with a new look and expanded horizons. Our goal was and is to create a complete list of films, tv-series, books, games, comics, songs,... with a lesbian character in them or lesbian content, even if it’s only a nanosecond or you have to read between the lines to see it.
Thanks to T.A.T.u.'s success and user Kyra and her great articles and translations about T.A.T.u., it become rapidly more of a community, growing with new users everyday, and new services like news, a directory, a shop,... Of course with success came problems; the more users, the more bandwidth was needed, so we inverted some money in a bigger hosting and then a bigger one and so on until now that we have our own server named Xena.
So, why a Lesbian Lips site in English? Well, a lot of people write us asking for an English version; they love lesbianlips.es, well–at least what they can understand from it. But our main reason is that, in spite of being able to marry in Spain, we luck of the grade of expanded culture there are in USA. Lots of gay books are published, there are Gay Alliances in your colleges and high schools, there're famous people out publicly...
